When will life get back to normal after a knee replacement?

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Usually, the first question people ask is how quickly can they resume their daily activities and get back to doing the things they like after knee replacement surgery.

The first month after your knee replacement will be difficult, but we always tell our patients that life goes on.

You will be able to return to what you want to do but at a slower pace for the first couple of months.

You will require some assistance with household tasks immediately after surgery, however you will be able to return to work 2-4 weeks after surgery, depending on the nature of your job. If you’re staying at home, taking care of family members, you will be able to continue doing so, but you are going to want them to take care of you for the first couple of weeks.

After surgery, you will be prescribed 12 weeks of physical therapy to speed the recovery process along.

The three main goals of physical therapy are:

  1. Improving your weight-bearing capabilities
  2. Improving your range of motion
  3. Improving your endurance

It is critical that you commit to increasing your knee’s range of motion in the first few weeks of therapy so that you are fully functioning at the end of the 12 weeks.
