Over the past twenty-five years, Dr. Bryan has co-authored multiple articles on topics in the field of orthopedics, ranging from joint replacement in adolescent athletes to intra- and post- operative therapies in total knee replacement. He was commissioned by Major League Baseball to investigate throwing injuries in minor league ballplayers and continues to conduct investigative research.
As 2007 comes to an end, Dr. Bryan continues to engage in a number of different research and academic projects. Several trials are underway: an investigation into the effectiveness and safety of hyaluronic acid for the treatment of glenohumeral (shoulder) arthritis, a look at the kinematics (motion) of different total knee replacement systems in conjunction with Texas Woman’s University, and an ongoing look at driving reaction times in drivers with different kinds of knee replacements, among others. Additionally, Dr. Bryan will soon begin work on a study that will investigate the safety and effectiveness of a new drug used to thin the blood after knee replacement surgery. He continues his active involvement in developing novel rehabilitation programs in conjunction with rehabilitation specialists, including a program targeting golfers and rotator cuff repair. Also in progress is a program that incorporates music as an adjunct to rehab as patients recuperate from knee replacement. Moreover, Dr. Bryan will soon complete a draft of a book chapter devoted to rehabilitation of various knee ailments, which will be included in a larger volume devoted to Orthopedic Rehabilitation and slated for publication in late 2008 or early 2009.
Dr. Bryan is always open to new ideas, proposals for clinical trials and other academic pursuits. All research-related questions should be directed to Casey Foster at ctgriffin@tmhs.org. |
